In a modern world, where most of us carried a false sense of togetherness, the current pandemic and its associated lock-down has opened up avenues for better understanding of people around us. It is up to each individual to make use of the available opportunities. The elements, most of us, took for granted, such as cleanliness and discipline are taking turns to haunt most people.

The COVID-19 scare has held the entire planet in its grip. With exponential growth of positive cases on the rise across the country, it was imperative for the nation to shut down from both outside and within. In view of the current crisis, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for Janata Curfew on March 22, Sunday. Without any Law enforcement, it was so satisfying to see majority of people obeying the PM’s message. This does not count all those involved in the 5 PM ceremony. That was sheer stupidity. A day later, the State Government of Tamil Nadu issued new orders of close-down for a period ending March 31. A day later, the PM extended the lock-down period to 21 days. There was a frantic rush of people getting back to their respective hometown. The government could have planned better to handle a crisis situation such as this. After all, the Government has all the resources with it.

Today, it’s been 10 days since the government issued prohibitory orders of venturing out without a valid reason. With section 144 in effect, the entire nation is spending time indoors, with the exception of a few. In times, such as the current pandemic, it is essential to follow hygienic practices and stay indoors. What this, also, means is an ability to manage and make use of available resources to good use. For a person like me, the last few days have been extremely rewarding. Here’s a brief outline of all that went by!

PROFESSIONAL LIFE:

On the professional front, it was work as usual. Hailing from Information Technology industry, the ability to work remotely is a boon. To me, ‘time’ is the foremost important factor. All that I do is associated with an intense rationale of Time Management! Now, you know how I balance my professional and personal lifestyle! Those of you who follow my website/social media profiles on a regular basis would better understand the significance of the former sentence. There’s a quality post almost every other day! Getting back to time, instead of not commuting to office each day, there was so much time available for doing all my assigned tasks and completing them much before the accepted deadline. Also, the cost incurred for fuel has been cut short to mere negligible. Each time I complete an official task ahead of time, I carry forward the available time to do my personal interests. At the end of the day, it is so satisfying to see all that’s accomplished! Here’s a side-by-side setup of my home & office setup!

PERSONAL LIFE:

I begin my day with a cup of coffee. I prefer sipping my coffee in the backyard of my home with lots of plants in the vicinity. At some places, it is quite dense and it’s an ideal setup of ecology and habitat for tiny birds and insects! I sit in silence admiring the quietness all around except for the pleasant sounds of chirping birds! The strong aroma of coffee and that of a fruit bearing mango tree revitalizes the sensory organs thereby setting the tone for the day ahead!

As an introverted traveler, I completely admire the ample personal time I have had. During the initial few days of lock-down, I received messages from few of my family members and dear friends asking how difficult it was to stay put at home, especially for the traveler in me? It was obvious for anyone to have a perception that a traveler doesn’t like to be stay put. I was glad to do away with such misleading awareness. Here’s my response to them: It’s a combination of several factors. The foremost important aspect is one’s personality type. Being an Introvert, there’s a general tendency to yearn for spending time with the self and there’s no better time than the current lock-down. So, it’s more of an Introverted Traveler within me!

While most people were dreadful about the 14 days lock-down, and some lamenting the lack of social association thereby doing all sorts of crazy activities to get attention in the social media world, it was all smooth and silky for me. I was immensely satisfied to devote quality time on many activities that were pending in my pipeline. For instance, I was able to compile a couple of travel blogs pending for over three months. Here’s the link to my blog! Alongside, lots of processing work has been done to the many photographs.

And, here’s something interesting. Not many of you may be aware of the Home-Computer-Network that I have. Basically, it’s a file server that I have set-up for my photography needs. With my local hard disks running of space, the File Server comes to the rescue. With thousands of precious photographs and other valuable information, this File Server comes handy offering both data protection and data redundancy thereby preserving the treasured files. This lock-down period has provided me with an opportunity to design a hierarchical file system directory structure that will help serve any data lookup procedures in the longer run.

Also, I am in the process of redesigning my website and fine tuning the various aspects for a pleasant experience!

And, Yes. Your observation is right. There’s no mention of time spent on watching television or catching up on the many web series on the internet. In fact, I don’t own a television at home. Together these two contribute to a massive chunk of time and resources being squandered.  I do follow a few trusted sources of NEWS publishing channels that convey the actual happenings. And, not the ones that create panic among the viewers.

On the whole, the quiet surroundings all through the day and not being subjected to a machine-like lifestyle, has been the story of wonderful streak of Ten days of lock-down! There are 14 more days before the lock-down could be lifted.

Better things are on their way!

Until then, stay safe!

Don’t Panic!
